Miniature Horse
Miniature horses are true horses, not a pony breed. They were developed by selectively breeding down the size of horses over many generations while keeping standard horse proportions.
Most miniature horses stand under 34 to 38 inches at the withers, depending on the registry standard used.
Historically, miniature horses were used in parts of Europe to pull small carts through coal mine tunnels, where their small size was an advantage in tight spaces.
Today, miniature horses are popular companion animals and are even trained to work as guide animals for people with visual impairments. With good care, they commonly live into their late 20s or 30s.
